HOUSE OFVermeil

How to wear it

The Layer System

Three lengths, made to sit together.

Most necklaces are designed alone and worn together, which is why they tangle. Every necklace in this house is cut to one of three fixed lengths, and the spacing between them is the design. Wear one on its own, or wear all three — they will rest apart.

40 cm

The First Layer

Sits at the base of the neck, just above the collarbone. It reads as part of the neckline rather than an addition to it, which is what makes it the anchor: everything else falls clear beneath it.

Best worn with — an open collar, a crew neck, bare skin. Choose a chain or a tight-set stone here; a large pendant at 40 cm crowds the throat.

45 cm

The Second Layer

Falls just below the collarbone. This is where a pendant reads clearest — far enough down to be legible against the skin, high enough to stay in the frame of an open shirt.

Best worn with — anything. If you own one necklace from the house, this is the length to own it in.

55 cm

The Statement

The longest drop, cut deliberately to hang clear of both layers above it. On its own it lengthens the line of the neck; in a stack it does the closing work.

Best worn with — a high neckline or a knit, where the shorter two would be hidden.

Building the stack

  • Start at 45 cm. It is the length that works alone, so it is the one that has to earn its place first.
  • Add 40 cm before 55 cm. A choker plus a pendant reads finished; a pendant plus a long drop reads unfinished until the top is closed.
  • Mix weights, not lengths. Two fine chains and one heavier piece is the ratio that photographs well and wears better.
  • Stay in one world. Gold with gold, silver with silver. Mixing metals is a look — it is just not this one.

Bracelets and rings

The same logic applies across the hand. Stack bracelets in odd numbers and vary the width; keep rings to two per hand, on non-adjacent fingers, with only one carrying a stone. Restraint is the point of the whole system.
